[PRESS RELEASE] HAMES & KOSMOS ANNOUNCES NATIONWIDE RELEASE OF SPIEL DES JAHRES-NOMINATED BOARD GAME, MY CITY, AT BARNES & NOBLE

THAMES & KOSMOS ANNOUNCES NATIONWIDE RELEASE OF SPIEL DES JAHRES-NOMINATED BOARD GAME, MY CITY, AT BARNES & NOBLE

My City Is A Family-Oriented Legacy Board Game That Creates A Unique Gameplay Experience Each and Every Time

PROVIDENCE, RI (JUNE 12, 2020) – Thames & Kosmos, the company behind some of the top strategy and family-focused board games on the market today, recently announced that the highly-anticipated tabletop game, My City, is available to pre-order now through Barnes & Noble and will be launching in stores next month. Developed by award-winning game designer Reiner Knizia, My City was named one of three nominees for this year’s prestigious Spiel des Jahres Award (German for “Game of the Year”)—an honor granted to games that represent the best of the best in family-style board games.

The game consists of 24 different games, or episodes, beginning with the development of a city in its early preindustrial stages and progressing through industrialization. Each player has their own game board, which they permanently modify during each episode through the addition of stickers. As such, My City is a legacy game, but its distinction within this category of board games is in the family-oriented rules, play time, and built-in system of handicaps and advantages which provide a balance between players of different skill levels.

“The category of legacy games is hugely popular within the board game community. People love these types of games for the unique experiences they provide—no two games are the same,” explained Andrew Quartin, CEO of Thames & Kosmos. “The brilliance and allure of My City is in its more accessible approach to this category of game. Through simple rules, a relatively short play time, and a pattern of increasing difficulty as the game progresses, My City fits perfectly in our mission to make fun, addictive games that the whole family can enjoy. Plus, it offers a secondary, repeatable play experience thanks to double-sided game boards. This isn’t a trait that many other legacy games share.”

Designed by renowned game author Reiner Knizia, whose games have been nominated countless times for the Spiel des Jahres and include two winners (one for the Spiel des Jahres and one for the Kinderspiel des Jahres, or “Children’s Game of the Year”), and illustrated by world-famous board game illustrator Michael Menzel of Legends of Andor fame, many predicted the success of My City even before its recent Spiel des Jahres nod.

“We are so excited to be a launch partner for My City,” said Sabrina Testa, Toys & Games Buyer at Barnes & Noble. “I can’t wait to get this into our customers’ hands, and I can’t wait to play it with my own family!”

My City is available to preorder now on www.barnesandnoble.com and will be available for purchase in-store at Barnes & Noble locations nationwide starting July 31, 2020, with distribution in specialty stores slated for October 2020. The suggested retail price is $34.95. To learn more about My City and Thames & Kosmos, please visit www.thamesandkosmos.com

About My City:

My City is a unique, family-oriented legacy gaming experience that is played in relatively short episodes. The game consists of 24 different episodes beginning with the development of a city in its early preindustrial stages and progressing through industrialization. At the beginning of the first episode, every player receives their very own board (players even write their name on it). During each episode, players customize their experience by adding stickers and writing on their own boards. Players’ choices and actions made during one episode of gameplay carry over into the next episode, creating a personalized gaming experience. For players who do not want to experience My City as a legacy game, a double-sided game board offers an alternate setup for repeatable play. For 2 to 4 players | Ages 10+ | MSRP: $34.95 | Play time: 30 minutes.

How to Play Centershaft: Fallen Elements

Four renowned opportunists are hired to obtain the world’s rarest gemstones that were once derived from all over the world and are kept in an exclusive place, protected for thousands of years by a native tribe. It will be no easy task to retrieve the stones.

The four opportunists must venture, not fully aware of the dangers, into a subterranean labyrinth. Seeking what they believe are rare gems, they soon discover the stones contain elemental powers. Threatened, they find themselves maneuvering quickly through warp portals, battling natives, and avoiding traps in an ever-changing maze. Escaping could prove problematic with a monstrous guardian willing to kill to protect its undisturbed dwelling. But returning to Centershaft and getting out alive is of most importance!

Players will explore the labyrinth to recover Element Tokens. You win the game by being the first to collect one of each Element token and then return to the Centershaft Hub tile.

Town Builder Coevorden LIVE NOW

Click here to go to the KICKSTARTER

Town Builder: Coevorden is loosely based on the Dutch city of Coevorden in the 1600s although it’s not meant to be a Dutch themed game. The city’s most distinct trait is the double moated star fortification surrounding the city.

Thematically the game is a town building contest where players compete to build the most beautiful district. There is a panel of judges and awards players compete for in addition to scoring points for completed buildings.

Mechanically you draft cards from a central card row into your tableau. Cards can be taken as foundations (which become buildings) or as a resource. It’s about 15 minutes per player and plays 2-4 and also has a solitaire variant.

How to Play Empyreal: Spells and Steam (Level 99 Games) – Quick Starter Tutorial

On Kickstarter Now: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/level99games/empyreal-spells-and-steam-a-fantasy-railway-buildi?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=empyreal

Website: https://www.level99games.com/empyreal-spells-steam

The industrial age has come at last to the World of Indines! Use your ingenuity and the skill of your team of technomancers to cross the continent of Indines while connecting towns and building a vibrant trade network. Research new spells as you carve a path through the many treacherous terrains of the continent, using your company’s unique advantages to outbuild the competition and secure supply lines for rare resources.

In Empyreal: Spells & Steam, technomancers use mana to build rails, and the amount of mana crystals required to cast a spell varies by terrain and by the potency of the spell. Mana crystals must recharge after being used, so your choice of when and where to use each spell will be critical to determining the efficiency of your construction engine.

The towns you choose to connect to your network will provide critical resources, and the value of these resources changes over time. Some become more valuable as they become more connected, while others become less valuable as their abundance increases. Thus, you need to be wary of what your competitors are building into their trade networks and adapt your strategies accordingly to maximize the value of your stock portfolio.

Reaching new cities first gives you additional benefits, and being the first to bridge the continent provides you with a sizable commission from your backers. However, those who build first are more at the mercy of changing markets. Time your construction projects to maximize your profits and the flow of mana.
